I think it started back in 01...

The following post is from the husband.....

Back in December of 2001, K underwent her 2nd ACL reconstructive surgery. Lucky for me, we had only been married for 6 months, so she was still covered under the one year warranty I got from Papa. This warranty involved Gramma coming to town for a week or so to help out with getting K moved around, cooking, cleaning, etc. Since at the time we did not have kids, we spent a lot of time just hanging out and watching movies. We decided at one point to watch all three of the Godfather movies. The first two as you know were awesome (probably the 10th time I saw those) and the third one was a major disappointment (probably the last time I'll watch that one).

Little did we know, we officially started a tradition. Every time we get together with K's family for an extended period of time, we now select a series of movies to watch after the kids go to bed.

Here are some of the highlights from the last several years.

Anne of Green Gables...I don't remember being apart of this.
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
Bad Boys...that's right...Bad Boys I and II, with K' sister
Lonesome Dove (probably my favorite)

This year, we have decided to go with some of the greatest movies from each sport: Hoosiers (basketball), Victory (soccer), Rudy(football) etc. However, we are having trouble coming up with a basball movie. We have narrowed down the choices to the following: Field of Dreams, The Natural, The Sandlot, League of their Own and Bang the Drum Slowly. We'd love your input.

I voted for the natural only because I have never scene it and have no idea what is about and don't get to watch it with you!

I vote for A League of Their Own, except that you might want Charlie around - "There's no crying in [fill in the blank]" can come in really handy! Drew had a meltdown at soccer last week when he didn't score a goal (he had the two previous weeks), but my comment was lost on him. Maybe we'll be renting that soon.

I love Field of Dreams and would like to see The Natural again, but never heard of Bang the Drum Slowly, so that is what I vote for.

PS Kerri...you can always spend the night. We have two sofa beds and an office and closet for the babies!!

All good, but really - think about it. No doubt in my mind. You can't beat this - - -

"Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come."
